In an unusual move, we have the villain telling the story. The narrator, and foil, is his nemesis, Aaron Burr. This is also the message of the musical Hamilton.Īt first, Hamilton seems to be about the life of founding father Alexander Hamilton. We need to examine the perspective from which our collective story has been told. The protests were peaceful, the message relentless- we need to change our nation’s narrative. A few hours after I watched Hamilton, protesters descended on the Governor’s mansion which is less than two blocks from my house. Our city, like many others, has been a stage for nightly protests.
Given the social unrest we are currently experiencing, I also noticed a few things that I might have missed had I seen the production earlier. Having listened to the soundtrack many times, I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. I’ve missed live performances during the pandemic, and this a welcome bit of musical escapism during the July 4 th holiday weekend.
